I'll do better!

Not much new on the home front, I created this page thinking to myself I would post at least once a week.  So far I haven't done to well but will do my best to do better. We are done haying and got the steers shipped and the heifers weaned.  Now it can snow!!

Hired Hand

Yesterday I helped my hubby pick idiot cubes square bales out of the field. At least it was kinda rainy and not 100 degrees out that sure makes things go a whole lot easier.  I was hoping to get to swath a little today we shall see, the weather looks like it will be sunny so maybe after lunch.

Our whit tail deer seem to be dying.  I think we have found something like 12 dead ones around here.  Not sure what kind of disease we have going through but it has only affected white tail so far.  Not much else going on around the here, hope you all have a great day!

Before I go I just was wondering to myself  "how much does a hired hand make"?  Just out of curiosity so I can give my hubby crap when I take on that roll.  Maybe I should sit down and type out a bill for the work I have done this summer!   JK... he would come unglued, but might be worth it to see his reaction!!!

Summer Work

We got our wheat harvested about a week ago.  So glad that is done for the year.  We are in the middle of second cutting which is good I am sick of haying  we usually cut until the snow flies.  I by no means am ready for snow but would like some cooler temps.

WE sold our calves about 4 weeks ago so it won't be long and we will have to get them all preconditioned and ready to ship. I love to see them get on those trucks on shipping day.  That is our payday for the year $$$$!!!  My DH (dear husband) is helping a friend precondition his calves today at Red Lodge.  So it will just be me and the kiddos tearing this place apart  holdin the fort down.  Hope you all have a great day!

About The Thompson Family

Ok I'll give you a little info about my family.  Carl is my husband  he is from Nye Montana and I am from Broadus Montana.   We met at the Miles City Bucking Horse Sale (If you ever get a chance to go it's about as much fun as you can have in one spot.)  We was married 6 months later then two years later we had a little boy.  His name is Lane Robert, he is 4 now.  He has a sister her name is Helen Nicole and she is 18 (almost 19 ) months old.

Now that you have met my family I'll tell a little about where we live and what we do.  We Live in Columbus Montana right on the Yellowstone.  I can literally throw a rock from my house to the river. My mother and father in law live a quarter of mile away from us. (It's like we got our very own babysitter right next store!!!) We ranch we lease several small places between here and Red Lodge. We run about 300 head of cattle, 6 sheep, 10 ducks, 1 chicken who is currently raising 10 turkeys (I'll tell you that story later) 1 dog, Suri, and several cats. So our summer months are spent in the hay field, we spend a good share of the fall trying to get the hay up before the snow flys. The winter months are spent feeding the cows. Then spring comes and we are calving and trying to get fences fixed and stuff that got put off "until we had time" to do them.   I guess that pretty much raps it up.

We had so much rain this spring, the Yellowstone went out of its banks and was flooding my drive way!!!
